Black Cat maraca

If rattling your own bones is too much, grab one of these whimsical maracas to do the rattling for you.
The Halloween salutation of trick-or-treat used to be accompanied by a cacophony of other noises. Noise makers that clanked, snapped, whistled, or clanged were just as important to the door-to-door tradition as the candy bag, and kids had a wide variety to choose from on the dime store shelves.
Noise makers are said to help keep the spirits away as well. Unless it’s a Vodoun zombie of course; the soft rattle just might sound like a beckoning Vodoun priest! We recommend against shaking out a steady beat and muttering anything that might sound like a spell, just in case.
Bring a noisy tradition back to your neighborhood with a set of these paper mache maracas. A shake produces a soft rattle, perhaps more akin to the whispering of a dried corn husk than a rattle of bones. But get enough going at the same time and you’ll cause enough of a ruckus to keep any wandering spirits at a safe distance.

Maraca is a sturdy 12 inches high, and each character's head is delightfully large. (Approximately 10 inches around.)
