Back before alchemists and astrologers exchanged their starry, night-blue robes for lab coats of featureless white and became astronomers and chemists, the serious investigator of nature’s mysteries felt that where you recorded your findings was nearly as important as the findings themselves. Knowledge was alive and required a suitable habitat to remain so. Thus, the preparation of a mystic volume demanded the services of a specialized bookbinder-one who knew how to select the finest parchment and the choicest leather, and who understood the most favorable seasons, days, and hours in which to undertake so delicate a task. Never common, these admirable craftsman are all but extinct today. Even so, we managed to find one still faithfully serving the tiny community of seekers-after-wisdom who persist in clinging to an antique research protocol. It took a little coaxing, but ultimately he agreed to make for us a small number of these exquisite Hallowe’en Photo Albums.

Each book measures 7’’x 13’’ and features a solidly constructed timber cover bound in wrinkled cowhide stained an earthy shade of burnt sienna, and outer corners reinforced with antiqued brass. On the front cover, set in a circle of mahogany emu leather and surrounded with a brass ring, is a green glass eye. Inside you’ll find 350 hand bound, deckle-edged pages of archival quality, acid free paper - the end papers in tuscan orange, the rest in deepest raven black.
